‘We will never forget’: Pelosi calls for medals for Capitol defenders
House of Commons Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday introduced a bill to award congressional gold medals, the highest honor in Congress, to the Capitol Police and other members of the forces of the order for their actions on January 6.
We also see the extraordinary worth of the Capitol Police, who risked and gave their lives to save our Capitol, our democracy, our lives. They are martyrs for our democracy, martyrs for our democracy, those who lost their lives. That is why I am presenting a resolution, introducing legislation to pay tribute to the Capitol Police and other law enforcement personnel who have protected the Capitol, by giving them a Congressional Gold Medal, the highest distinction that Congress can grant. The Capitol Police Department that day brought honor to our democracy. Their acceptance of this award brings sparkle to this medal. We must always remember their sacrifice and be vigilant of what I have already said, what Abraham Lincoln said: “The silent artillery of time.” We will never forget.
