Trump lawyers were ‘disorganized’, says Senator Cassidy
Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy said “the House Directors presented a compelling and compelling case and the President’s team did not” on whether the impeachment trial was constitutional .
I said I would be an impartial juror. Whoever listened to these arguments, the directors of the House were focused, they were organized, they relied on both precedents, the Constitution and legal scholars. They made a compelling argument. President Trump’s team was in disarray. They did all they could but to talk about the issue at hand. And when they brought it up, they kind of slipped on it, almost like they were embarrassed by their arguments. Now I’m an impartial juror, and one side is doing a great job and the other is doing a terrible job on the issue at hand, as an impartial juror I’m going to vote for the side that did the right job. They talked about a lot of things, but they didn’t talk about the problem in question. And so if you, if I’m an impartial juror and I’m trying to make a decision based on the facts as presented on this issue, then the House administrators have done a much better job. The question at stake is: is it constitutional to remove a president who has left office? And the House directors made a compelling and compelling argument, which the president’s team failed to do.
