You continue to call the House the “minor leagues”.
I’m looking at Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina and I’m looking at Governor Kristi Noem from South Dakota, right? Ten years ago, they held seats in the House.
What worries you the most?
Are we able to maintain our strength and develop it? You know, the Senate is going to be based on the House. The Republicans in the Senate didn’t get their majority in 2010. They couldn’t win it until we brought members of the House there. The same will happen now. And our members will be governors in the future. They are going to run for president. The celebration will be more diverse. We are not more diverse today, but we will be. We are on the way.
What role does Trump play in the next two years?
I don’t think Trump is leaving. If at the end of the day he does not win the presidency, he will still be a player and he will always have a base. And if you sit down, if Trump wasn’t on the ticket, would we have won seats this year? He brought participation.
Mr Trump helped Republicans in Miami, where Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Giménez beat the representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Mr. Giménez did not vote for Mr. Trump in 2016, but he agreed to support him in that election, and the two came to an agreement during a trip Mr. Trump made to Miami.
I literally said to Trump, “He didn’t vote for you,” did I? And I laid it all out. He said, “I will approve it. I want to know publicly that he will support me. So Carlos tweeted, right? He lands that day, shakes his hand, says, “I’m going to approve you and I’m going to do more for you.” And do you know what he did? He was elected.
Isn’t Biden cooling the country’s political temperatures, at least initially?
It depends on how it goes. If you have 70% of Republicans who thought he cheated, he’s still going to have a hard time.
He didn’t, of course. But the reason they believe it is because it is fed every day.
But remember when he was running. He appeased the left. And then he would go back from his old self to his new self, right? So if he’s lucky enough to win the election, he probably sits down and says, “I’m glad the Republicans won because I don’t have to …”
