Three days before the presidential inauguration, Washington, DC is under a historic military lockdown, facing the twin threat of covid-19 and further attacks following the siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6. “Hey sir, how are you? Where are we going? “DC looks like something I’ve never seen, I’ve been to the last two openings, and this is the first time I’ve been to the opening and it looks like it’s a battle site. It is the site of a war. What you see behind me shows that we have not had a peaceful transition of power. 25,000 National Guard troops, along with Capitol Police, Metro Police, Secret Service and Border Patrol are stationed around Washington, DC, ahead of the January ceremony. Trump’s militia flags and banners are gone for now, but President Trump’s unsubstantiated allegations of voter fraud still dominate his supporters. “I feel very safe here. And at peace because I don’t wear anything like that, ‘Trump’ says on it. I came here on January 6th for the event, the rally. I was not in the group of anyone who entered the Capitol. I wasn’t even close to the Capitol. And I walked out because I felt it was important for electoral integrity. I believe our democracy will fail if Joe Biden is sworn in as President of the United States. [Music] The U.S. capital and state capitals across the country will remain under tight security this week, amid widespread concerns over violence from right-wing extremists.
